RE-BUILD - TEAM CTS 180SX “2.0”

After becoming the 2008 Australian drift champions, Team CTS is straight back to work with a revamped team.

To keep the trademark Team CTS Drift quality and reliability Team Principle Bill Bromley chose some of South Australia's finest mechanical technicians for the new direction the team is taking.

Simon Podlewski and Adam Strugala are the pick of the bunch, with Davin Thompson selected as the number one drift teams operations technician.

Becoming number one in Australia comes at a cost. After the unfortunate mishap with a concrete wall at the final round in 08, the blue missile has been stripped to a bare shell for a major overhaul. Included in the process was a session on the global jig to reset the chassis back to factory Nissan specs. The Team CTS Drift 180SX was then booked into Cross Keys Paint and Panel for some tender love and care, where it received a new coat “Toyo Blue” externally and a tidy up and a lick of paint internally.

After receiving the rejuvenated chassis Team Principle Bill Bromley and the eager CTS Team were aware of the task ahead. The date had been set with only four weeks till the first test day of 2009.

The most comprehensive rebuild process to date began with the fitting of all new components that had recently arrived from the land of the rising sun (Japan) over the Xmas break, three body kits, new headlights, indicators, intercooler, oil coolers, control arms and pretty much any moving part was replaced with new components to ensure the Team CTS Drift reliability remained the teams strong suit.

Long time team supporter Rhemac Performance Engines were sent to work on the SR20DET.  The 2 litre four cylinder was transformed in to a 2.4 litre torque monster of which the dyno soon revealed just how good the boys at Rhemac are. The engine is the first of two steps Team CTS Drift will take in building the perfect drift weapon.

Team CTS Drift is considered a leader on and off the track and in order to keep the status quo, Team Principle Bill Bromley decided the next frontier is environmental sustainability. E85 ethanol fuel has been chosen along with a big dollar fuel system to suit the needs of this environmentally sustainable fuel.

Leading engine tuning specialists “Morpowa Auto and Dyno” were tasked with getting the bugs out of the new package as well as to start the R&D program with the new engine/fuel set up. After all the late nights and countless hours of hard work the “start button” was pushed for the first time. Early dyno figures proved the new package to be some 20% better than the 08 car leading Team Principle Bill Bromley to comment “Can’t get any better than this boys” with his trademark grin.
